The southern Boso Peninsula is one of the few places within range of Tokyo where you can genuinely feel like you’ve left the city behind. New Nansoh Golf Club, managed by Accordia Golf and designed by Toshisuke Kato, sits in this landscape — a hillside course that rewards the drive south.
The Course
New Nansoh is set in hilly terrain with tree-lined fairways that frame the holes well. The layout requires constant adjustment — elevation changes mean you’re reading the land as much as the yardage on every approach. It’s the kind of course that plays differently in every season, and one that rewards returning to.
All carts are equipped with touchscreen GPS navigation, which makes club selection on elevation-change holes considerably easier. The fairway cart access option is particularly well-reviewed in summer — when the heat is up, being able to drive to your ball rather than walk a hilly course makes a real difference to how you finish the round.
Making a Trip of It
The Minamiboso area is worth combining with an overnight stay. The coastline has good seafood — particularly the local lobster (伊勢エビ) — and there are several onsen ryokan within a short drive. A golf trip to New Nansoh works well as a two-day getaway from Tokyo.
