Ko Olina Golf Club Review: Hawaii’s Most Fun Course (Yes, There’s a Mickey Mouse Bunker)

Every time I fly into Honolulu, I try to squeeze in a round of golf. Ko Olina Golf Club is my go-to — and once you see it, you’ll understand why.

Located on the west side of Oahu, Ko Olina is one of Hawaii’s most beautiful resort courses. I’ve played it multiple times, and it never gets old.

The Mickey Mouse Bunker

Ko Olina is right next to the Aulani Disney Resort, and the course leans into it. The most famous feature? A bunker shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head — three perfectly rounded sand traps arranged in the unmistakable silhouette. It’s one of those things you have to see to believe, and yes, it’s exactly as charming as it sounds.

Just don’t land in it. It plays harder than it looks.

The Course

Ko Olina is a well-designed resort course with wide fairways, mature palm trees, and views of the Pacific on several holes. It’s not a brutally difficult course, but it’s not a pushover either — especially when the trade winds pick up.

  • Par 72, 18 holes
  • Multiple tee options for all skill levels
  • Immaculately maintained greens
  • Full-service clubhouse and pro shop

Location and Access

Ko Olina is about 25 minutes west of Honolulu Airport by car — making it an easy stop before or after your flight. It sits within the Ko Olina Resort complex, home to the Four Seasons, Aulani Disney, and several lagoons that are perfect for an afternoon after your round.

  • 🕐 Access: 25 min from Honolulu Airport by car
  • 💴 Price range: $150–$250 USD (resort rates vary)
  • 🏨 Stay and play packages available at Four Seasons and Aulani

Tips for Playing Ko Olina

  • Book early — Ko Olina fills up fast, especially on weekends and during peak season (December–March)
  • Play in the morning — The west side of Oahu gets afternoon sun and wind. Early tee times offer calmer conditions
  • Watch for the trade winds — They can shift club selection by 1–2 clubs on exposed holes
  • Stay for sunset — The Ko Olina lagoons at sunset are world-class. Bring your clubs and your camera

A Round Worth the Flight

Ko Olina is one of those courses that makes you feel like you’re on vacation from the moment you step on the first tee. The setting, the service, and yes — the Mickey Mouse bunker — make it a round you’ll remember long after you’ve left the island.

If you’re visiting Oahu, put this one on your list.
