The Tsuchiyama area of Koka sits along one of Japan’s oldest travel routes — the old Tokaido road passed through here, connecting Edo to Kyoto through the forested mountain passes of Shiga. Suzuka Golf Club’s Tsuchiyama Course inherits that spirit of somewhere genuinely in between: accessible from both the Nagoya and Osaka sides, but with an atmosphere entirely its own.
The Course
The course is set in mature forest terrain, with cedar and pine lining virtually every hole. The layout demands accuracy — errant shots into the trees here cost more than just position. The fairways are well-defined and the greens are maintained to a high standard, with the forest setting keeping conditions cooler in summer than the more exposed courses further east.
The overall atmosphere is one of genuine seclusion — this is not a course that feels like a suburban facility. It has a forest course character that makes the round feel like a proper escape.
