Most golf lessons happen on a driving range. You hit balls, your instructor watches, adjustments are made, more balls are hit. It’s useful, but it’s also somewhat removed from the conditions where those adjustments actually need to happen — on a real course, with real pressure, making real decisions under time constraints. Chiba Birdie Club offers something different: a round lesson format that bridges that gap.
The Format
Jeff Yamaguchi’s round lesson at Chiba Birdie Club starts on the range — theme identification, warmup, establishing the key focus for the day. Then it moves to the course: a half-round with instruction built into the flow of play, followed by a break where Jeff reviews video footage of your swing from the first nine. The second half is played with those adjustments in mind.
The session runs through without a lunch break — a through-play format that keeps things efficient. By early afternoon the round is complete, the lesson is done, and you leave with specific, course-tested feedback rather than range impressions. It’s faster than expected and more effective for it.

Jeff’s teaching style is clear and communicative — he explains what he’s seeing and why it matters in terms that translate to the course rather than just the range. The swing video review mid-round is a particular strength of the format: seeing your own swing footage immediately before playing the back nine creates a direct feedback loop that most range lessons can’t replicate. He’s also good company for a round, which matters when you’re spending several hours with an instructor.
The regular clients are regulars for a reason. After one session it’s easy to understand why people come back.
