Sanjo is one of the practical cities of Niigata — a manufacturing and agricultural hub surrounded by the flat rice fields that produce some of Japan’s finest koshihikari. Dainiigata Country Club’s Sanjo Course sits in this landscape, offering a different experience from the coastal Izumozaki Course — flatter, more open, and with the particular quality of light that the Echigo plain provides.
The Course
The course is set on the flat Niigata plain with a parkland design that uses water and bunkering to create challenge in the absence of natural elevation. The greens are well-maintained and the layout offers variety across 18 holes. In autumn, the surrounding rice fields at harvest are worth seeing in their own right.
