Iizuka was at the center of Chikuho — the coal mining belt that powered Japan’s industrialization and shaped northern Kyushu’s character for over a century. The mines are long closed, but the landscape has recovered well, and the rolling terrain around the former colliery towns now supports some solid golf. Kaho Golf Club is one of the courses that makes a day trip to the Iizuka area worthwhile.
The Course
The course is set on gently rolling terrain with well-maintained fairways and a layout that uses the natural contours of the former coal country landscape. Greens are true and consistent, and the overall conditioning is good for the price point. GORA reviewers have noted the value quality ratio and the well-paced rounds — a course that delivers more than the green fee might suggest.
