Tomioka is best known for its UNESCO-listed silk mill — the Tomioka Silk Mill that anchored Japan’s industrial revolution in the Meiji era. But rising behind the city is something equally dramatic: Myogi-san, a jagged volcanic peak whose distinctive silhouette defines the western Gunma skyline.
