Namegawa Town takes its name from the area’s history as a habitat for the omurasaki — Japan’s national butterfly, a large purple emperor that still inhabits the oak forests of the Hiki hills. Omurasaki Golf Club shares that name, a course set in the same forested valley terrain where the butterfly still occasionally makes an appearance on warm summer days.
